Our company specializes in custom manufacturing of plastic dinner plate molds in various styles. Below is a detailed description of our manufacturing process for dinner plate molds.
Mold Material
The cavity and core of dinner plate molds are generally made of P20 or 718H grade steel or above. These materials achieve a hardness of approximately 25 to 30 HRC. For customers requiring higher performance, we can procure better grades of mold steel according to specific requirements.
Mold Design Software
We use UG, CAD, PRO/E, and the Moldflow simulation software for mold design. Moldflow analysis is used to optimize gate locations and runner designs to ensure balanced filling and to minimize flow marks and weld lines on the visible surfaces of the plate.
Mold Processing Equipment
Our main processing equipment includes radial drilling machines, surface grinders, gantry CNC milling machines, engraving and milling machines, deep‑hole drilling machines, and EDM machines. For mold trials, we use Haitian injection molding machines ranging from 200T to 500T, depending on the cavity count.
Ejection System
The ejection system for dinner plate molds uses a combination of ejector pins and an ejector plate. All ejector pins are made of SKD61 high‑quality steel. Given the large surface area and thin cross‑section of the plate, the ejection system must distribute force evenly to avoid bending or cracking.
Cooling System
For dinner plate molds, cooling efficiency directly affects production output and, consequently, the unit cost of the product. Cooling channels are arranged on both the cavity and core sides to provide uniform heat extraction, which is essential for controlling warpage in flat parts.
Gate System
The gate system for dinner plate molds typically uses hot runner systems. For larger plates, multiple gate points may be used to ensure balanced filling and to minimize flow length. The gate location is selected to minimize visible gate marks on the product surface.
Venting System
Proper venting is critical in dinner plate molds. Given the thin wall sections and large surface area, the venting system must be carefully designed to allow trapped air to escape during filling, preventing burning and ensuring complete filling of the cavity.
Surface Hardness Treatment
Surface hardness treatment is important for dinner plate molds. The parting surfaces of the mold are typically treated with laser quenching to a depth of approximately 2 mm, achieving a surface hardness of approximately 50 HRC. This treatment extends the service life of the mold.
Mold Life
The service life of a dinner plate mold depends on the steel grade used. P20 steel, with a hardness of approximately 25 HRC, typically provides a mold life of around 200,000 cycles. 718H steel, with a hardness of approximately 30 HRC, provides a mold life of around 400,000 cycles. Higher‑grade steels can extend the mold life accordingly.
Shipping and Packaging
Before shipment, the mold surface is treated with anti‑rust protection, and safety locks are installed to secure the mold. The mold is then wrapped in plastic film.
